No, you can’t drink at the fair, but in the education building, you can gaze into glass cases to see the winners of the state’s beer and wine competitions. Winners are on display in the fair’s Education Building, next to winners of the cheese competition.
In the wine competition, Raffaldini’s Montepulciano won the N.C. Winegrowers Cup, while Cypress Bend’s Catherine won the N.C. Muscadine Cup. Read more about wine winners from the State Fair. This was the first year for the N.C. Brewers Cup, and a clear winner was Aviator Brewing Co. of Fuquay-Varina, which took four blue ribbons and one second place. Home brewer Chris Creech of Chapel Hill won first place in the amateur competition.
Even a cake decorator got into the theme, with a cake decorated like a wine bottle.
